The Client’s Vision
This Aamby Valley City project was designed as a luxurious second home for weekend living, family gatherings, and relaxed time with friends. The client wanted the property to feel warm, refined, and entertainment-ready without introducing anything that would disturb the natural character of the wooden chalet architecture. Since the home was meant for leisure and comfort, every audio decision had to support an easy, musical lifestyle where the client could enjoy drinks, jazz, conversation, and casual private cinema use in a calm and elegant environment.
The house included four bedrooms, a large rear garden, a pool zone, and a dedicated bar and barbecue area near the water. One bedroom was converted into a media room, but because the chalet was constructed in wood, there was no need for acoustic treatment and no possibility of embedding speakers into the walls or ceiling. That made the design especially interesting, because the system had to deliver high performance while blending naturally with the interiors and respecting the chalet’s structure. The result was a carefully balanced AV solution that prioritized sound quality, visual harmony, and a relaxed weekend atmosphere.

The main challenge was to deliver a system that felt sophisticated and immersive without using hidden in-wall or in-ceiling speakers. The client wanted the audio to complement the wooden chalet rather than conflict with it, so the speakers had to look and sound right in the space. At the same time, the living room needed serious HiFi performance for long listening sessions, the media room needed a surround system with strong movie performance, and the garden and pool areas required outdoor audio that could support parties and casual entertainment.

The living room was the heart of the second home, and it was designed for the client’s love of jazz and relaxed music listening with a drink in hand. This space needed a system that could fill the room with scale, warmth, and musical authority while still blending beautifully with the chalet’s interior. We selected a classic high-end stereo approach here because the room was meant for personal enjoyment rather than cinema-style use.

Tannoy Westminster Royal GR-OW
This is one of the most iconic floor standing HiFi loudspeakers, known for its large-scale presentation, natural midrange, and highly expressive dual concentric driver design. It was ideal for the client because jazz music demands realism, body, and effortless dynamics, all of which this speaker delivers with authority. The oiled walnut finish also matched the chalet’s wooden interior beautifully, making it both a sonic and visual fit.
McIntosh MA8000 Integrated Amplifier
The MA8000 provided the power, refinement, and control needed to drive the Tannoy speakers with confidence. Its strong amplifier section ensured that the Westminster Royal GR-OW could perform at its full potential while preserving the warmth and richness that jazz and vocal music require. The McIntosh styling also added a premium visual presence without disturbing the room’s character.
Thorens TD 903 Turntable
The Thorens turntable was included to give the client a true analog listening experience. It was a natural choice for a music lover who enjoys long, relaxed listening sessions because vinyl adds a tactile and emotional dimension that suits jazz especially well. This source helped make the living room feel like a real audiophile retreat rather than just a decorative entertainment room.
Kimber Kable
Kimber cables were used throughout the system to maintain signal purity and preserve the musical character of the HiFi chain. In a system of this level, cable quality matters because it supports the clarity, detail, and openness that the client expects from a reference stereo setup. The result is a transparent and stable signal path from source to speaker.

Media Room 7.2 Cinema
The media room was created inside one of the chalet bedrooms and transformed into a dedicated private theatre. Since the structure was wooden, there was no need for acoustic treatment, but the room also could not accept in-wall or in-ceiling speakers. That meant we had to design a fully visible speaker layout using floor standing and bookshelf models that could still deliver strong cinema performance while blending with the dark walnut décor.
The room was configured as a 7.2 system using Monitor Audio Gold series speakers in dark walnut finish. This gave the client a premium theatre experience without disturbing the warmth and character of the chalet. The result was a room that felt refined, immersive, and technically serious while remaining visually consistent with the rest of the home.

Monitor Audio Gold GX300
These floor standing speakers formed the front left and right channels and delivered detailed, clean, and dynamic sound for movie playback. Their elegant dark walnut finish helped them blend into the room, while their tonal balance ensured strong front-stage imaging and a satisfying cinematic presentation. They were a smart choice for a media room that needed both performance and aesthetic harmony.
Monitor Audio Gold GXC350
This center channel handles dialogue and front-stage cohesion, which is especially important in a home theatre where speech clarity must remain strong at every seat. It matched the GX300 speakers tonally and helped create a seamless front soundstage. For the client, this meant clear vocals, focused effects, and a more convincing movie experience.
Monitor Audio Gold GSFX
These surround speakers were used to create an enveloping sound field around the seating area. Their design works well in cinema environments because they can deliver spaciousness and directional detail without sounding harsh or overbearing. In this room, they helped create the immersive surround character the client wanted for films and concerts.
Monitor Audio GXW15 Subwoofers
Dual GXW15 subwoofers provided the low-frequency support needed for a proper theatre experience. They added depth, impact, and bass extension for movie soundtracks while maintaining control and precision. The dual-sub approach also helped achieve more even bass response in the room.

Yamaha Aventage RX-A2020
This receiver handled surround processing and system control for the media room. It was well suited to a 7.2 configuration and offered reliable performance for both movies and multi-channel music. Yamaha’s processing made the room easy to use while still delivering a refined and flexible cinema experience.
Media Player
The media player gave the client straightforward access to movie content and entertainment sources. It was integrated to work smoothly with the Yamaha receiver and the rest of the system, allowing quick and simple playback without unnecessary complexity.

Garden and Pool Audio
The garden and pool area was designed for parties, barbeque evenings, and relaxed outdoor entertainment. Since this was a second home used with friends and family, the outdoor music needed to feel lively and practical, without becoming visually intrusive in the landscape. We used rock speakers so the system could blend naturally into the garden environment while still delivering enough coverage for a social gathering.

Nine outdoor rock speakers were selected to provide full garden and pool coverage without interrupting the natural look of the property. Their disguised form made them ideal for a luxury landscape setting where equipment should remain unobtrusive. At the same time, they gave the client strong outdoor music performance for parties and casual listening around the bar and barbecue station.
Yamaha Aventage RX-A2020
The same receiver platform was used here to maintain consistency and simplicity in the system design. It allowed the outdoor zone to be integrated with the rest of the property while still functioning as an independent music area. This gave the client flexible control depending on whether he wanted music indoors, outdoors, or across both zones.

This project did not include a full automation system, which actually suited the client’s lifestyle and the informal second-home character of the property. The focus stayed on high-quality sound, simple operation, and harmony with the chalet’s design. That allowed the entire AV experience to remain elegant, practical, and easy to enjoy during weekends without unnecessary complexity.
