Professional Preview Theatre with 9.4.4 Dolby Atmos, Pune
Subhash Nagar, Pune
The Client’s Vision
This project in Pune was not a conventional private cinema. It was designed as a preview theatre, which meant the room had to support professional-style private screenings for films, advertisements, and content review before release. The client wanted a theatre that could reveal every detail in sound and picture so that any editing or creative changes could be evaluated properly before final approval. In other words, this room had to work like a serious content preview environment rather than just a luxury entertainment space.
The client expected the finest projector, the most accurate surround sound experience, and an image and sound chain that would feel truly reference-grade. The theatre was limited to eight seats, which gave us the opportunity to focus on precise listening geometry, strong acoustic balance, and premium visual presentation. Since the acoustic treatment and soundproofing were already handled by the client’s team, our responsibility was to design and calibrate the finest AV system possible and make sure every component worked together at a very high level.

Design Challenge
The Design Challenge
The challenge in a preview theatre is different from a normal home theatre because the room must be accurate, revealing, and professionally dependable. The system cannot simply sound impressive; it must expose detail, maintain tonal balance, and support critical content review. At the same time, the theatre had to perform well with a 166-inch curved acoustically transparent screen, a 2.35:1 Cinemascope format, and a high-end projection chain. Every component had to be selected and calibrated carefully so the room could serve both cinema enjoyment and professional preview use.
Theatre System
Theatre System
The theatre was built around a 9.4.4 Dolby Atmos layout using JBL Synthesis custom installation speakers and multiple subwoofers. This gave the room a strong front stage, wide surround coverage, and proper overhead movement, which is essential in a professional-grade Atmos environment. The seat count and room geometry made it possible to create a highly controlled listening area where every position in the room could receive accurate imaging and consistent tonal balance.
The combination of JBL Synthesis and Bowers & Wilkins ceiling speakers created a system that was both powerful and precise. The subwoofer array added the deep low-frequency foundation required for action films, music playback, and professional mixing checks. Since this was a preview theatre, the sound needed to be highly revealing so that any issue in a soundtrack or edit could be detected immediately.

Speaker System
The Speaker System
JBL Synthesis SCL-2
These in-wall speakers were used for the main front channels because they offer high power handling, strong dynamic capability, and accurate imaging. Their flush-mount design made them ideal for a clean preview theatre installation where the screen wall needed to remain professional and uncluttered. The speaker’s performance made dialogue, music, and effects sound direct and controlled, which is essential in a content review room.
JBL Synthesis SCL-3
These speakers were used for the surround layer, helping create a wide and precise sound field around the audience. Their in-wall design allowed them to remain visually hidden while still delivering strong directional cues and surround detail. For a preview theatre, this helped ensure that surround effects and transitions could be judged with confidence.
Bowers & Wilkins CCM 7.4
These in-ceiling speakers handled the overhead channels and completed the immersive Atmos layer. They added height information and helped the room create a true three-dimensional soundstage. In a preview theatre, this is especially valuable because it allows the team to hear how content will behave in modern immersive formats.
JBL Synthesis S4S Dual 10″ Passive Subwoofers
The bass system used four flush-mount passive subwoofers supported by dedicated subwoofer amplifiers. This gave the room a strong and even low-frequency response without visible cabinet speakers in the room. For a preview theatre, this type of bass control is important because the room must reproduce low-end detail accurately, not just loudly.
Electronics
Electronics
Arcam AV860 Atmos Processor
The AV860 served as the surround processor and provided advanced format handling, including Dolby Atmos support and high-quality signal processing. It was a strong match for this theatre because the room needed accurate decoding, clean routing, and stable performance for professional use. The processor helped maintain the precision required in a preview environment.
Arcam Power Amplifier P429
The power amplifier provided clean and consistent drive to the speaker system. It was selected to support the theatre’s demand for dynamic performance without losing clarity. In a preview theatre, amplification quality matters because it directly affects how accurately sound detail is reproduced.
JBL Synthesis SDA 8300
This amplifier was used to power the subwoofer system with stable low-frequency control. It gave the room the necessary bass authority while keeping the subwoofers properly integrated with the main channels. That made the low end feel tight, controlled, and suitable for critical preview use.
Video System
Video System
JVC DLA-X900 Projector
The JVC projector was chosen for its premium cinematic performance and ability to support a large-screen preview environment. It produced the kind of image quality needed for a serious screening room where detail, contrast, and color consistency are important. With proper calibration, it became a strong visual foundation for the theatre.
Panamorph Anamorphic Lens
The anamorphic lens was used to support the 2.35:1 Cinemascope format and maximize the image area on the screen. This gave the theatre a more theatrical and professional visual presentation, especially for widescreen movie content. It also helped the room feel closer to a true screening room than a standard home cinema.
Elite Screen 166″ 2.35:1 Curved Acoustically Transparent Screen
This screen provided a large, immersive viewing surface while allowing the front speakers to sit behind it without compromising sound. The curved format and acoustically transparent design made the theatre feel more like a dedicated screening room. This was the right solution for a room intended for preview work as well as entertainment.
Source Components
Source Components
OPPO BDP-105EU, Apple TV, and UFO Club Cinema were integrated to give the client multiple content options. This mix supported disc playback, streaming, and content access through the UFO network. For a preview theatre, having multiple reliable sources is important because the room may be used for many different kinds of screening sessions.
OPPO BDP-105EU
The OPPO BDP-105EU was used as a high-quality disc player for reference-grade Blu-ray playback in the preview theatre. It was an excellent choice because it delivered stable video output, accurate audio decoding, and dependable performance for critical screening sessions where clarity and detail mattered. In a preview environment, a player like this is valuable because it allows the client to review movie content in a reliable, no-nonsense format with strong picture and sound quality.
Apple TV
Apple TV was added to give the client a simple and convenient streaming option inside the theatre. It made it easy to access digital content quickly without handling disc media, which is useful for fast preview sessions, informal screenings, or content reference playback. Its integration also made the theatre more flexible for everyday use, since the client could switch between professional disc playback and modern streaming with minimal effort.
UFO Club Cinema
UFO Club Cinema was integrated as an additional content source for professional-style movie access through its cinema network platform. This expanded the theatre’s usability by allowing the client to source fresh movie content beyond standard discs and streaming services. For a preview theatre, this kind of source flexibility is important because it supports different screening needs, including film review, content checks, and private viewing sessions.

Calibration & Technical Support
Calibration and Final Tuning
This project received especially careful calibration because the client wanted no weak point in the system. We spent nearly 10 days on speaker calibration and advanced projector adjustment, including HDR tuning, so the image and sound could perform at their best. For a preview theatre, calibration is not just a finishing step; it is a core part of making the room useful and accurate.
The client also took help from industry experts, and the whole process was driven by a desire for complete precision. That is why the final result worked so well: the room did not just sound good, it sounded trustworthy. In a preview environment, that trust is everything.
Soundproofing and Technical Support
The acoustic and soundproofing work was done by the client’s team, and that gave us a stable base to work from. We focused on the AV side, the rack planning, the hidden electronics, and the projection room setup. The electronics were placed in a separate projection room with proper ventilation so the theatre space could remain clean and uninterrupted.
This arrangement also kept the room serviceable and efficient over time. It was a practical solution for a theatre of this level because it separated the technical equipment from the listening and viewing space. That helped maintain both performance and aesthetics.
