The Client’s Vision
This Chennai project was designed as a pure high fidelity listening room for a client who wanted nothing less than a reference grade music experience at home. The focus was not on cinema, multi zone distribution, or visual impact, but on achieving the most natural, powerful, and emotionally engaging stereo performance possible. Every component had to work together to present music with scale, texture, warmth, and clarity at the highest level.
The client was deeply interested in serious two channel sound, so the system had to deliver the full character of live performance with authority and refinement. The loudspeakers, amplification, source, rack, cables, and power conditioning all had to be selected carefully to support long term listening satisfaction. The result was a dedicated high end audio system that reflected both technical precision and a strong love for music.

The main challenge in this project was not complexity of zones or automation, but purity of signal and system synergy. In a high end stereo setup, every part of the chain matters, and any weakness in amplification, cabling, source quality, or power delivery can directly affect the listening experience. The goal was to build a system that would let the music breathe while preserving the expressive character of the loudspeakers.
Another important aspect was ensuring that the entire system worked as a complete audiophile chain rather than as individual luxury components. The Tannoy Westminster Royal GR OW speakers demanded serious amplification and careful supporting equipment, so the design had to deliver control, transparency, and musical weight without losing warmth. The final system was shaped to reproduce music in a way that felt organic, refined, and deeply satisfying for serious long term listening.

Tannoy Westminster Royal GR OW
The foundation of the system was the Tannoy Westminster Royal GR OW, one of the most respected high fidelity loudspeakers in the world. These speakers are known for their large scale presentation, natural midrange character, and authoritative dynamic ability, making them an ideal choice for a client who wanted a truly immersive listening experience. Their presence alone defined the room as a serious audiophile space.
The Westminster Royal GR OW was selected because it can reproduce music with both grandeur and intimacy exactly what a reference stereo system should do. It is capable of delivering deep, full bodied sound while still preserving delicate detail and tonal realism. For a client who values musical authenticity, this speaker system provided the right balance of power, refinement, and emotional connection.

Electronics and Amplification : McIntosh Vacuum Tube Reference
To drive the speakers, we used 2 McIntosh MC2301 vacuum tube mono power amplifiers along with the McIntosh C1100C vacuum tube preamplifier. This combination brought together the character, control, and musical richness needed for a world class stereo system. The mono amplifiers provided exceptional channel separation and effortless drive, while the tube preamp helped maintain smoothness, depth, and an engaging overall presentation.
This electronics pairing was especially well suited to the Tannoy loudspeakers because the system needed both control and soul. The McIntosh chain gave the music a natural flow, allowing vocals, acoustic instruments, and orchestral material to sound full and alive. The result was a sound signature that was powerful without being harsh, detailed without becoming clinical, and refined without losing emotional energy.
McIntosh MC2301 Vacuum Tube Monoblock Power Amplifiers
Two McIntosh MC2301 vacuum tube mono power amplifiers drove the Westminster Royal speakers with effortless authority. The mono configuration provided exceptional channel separation and gave each speaker its own dedicated power supply delivering the control, depth, and natural warmth that the Tannoy’s dual concentric drivers demand to perform at their best.
McIntosh C1100C Vacuum Tube Preamplifier
The McIntosh C1100C vacuum tube preamplifier maintained smoothness, depth, and an engaging overall presentation throughout the signal chain. Its dual chassis design separated audio and control circuitry for the lowest possible noise floor, allowing the music to emerge from absolute silence essential in a room designed for critical listening.

For the source component, an SME turntable was selected to give the client a serious analog playback experience. In a high fidelity system of this level, the turntable is not just a source device it becomes a core part of the musical character of the room. The SME platform supported precise vinyl playback and allowed the client to enjoy music with the depth and texture that only a strong analog front end can provide.
The system was also supported by an Artesania Audio rack, which helped provide stable mechanical support for the equipment while maintaining the same premium level of design as the rest of the setup. Kimber Kable was used for speaker and interconnection wiring to preserve signal integrity throughout the chain, while Synergistic Research power purifiers helped maintain clean and stable power delivery. Together, these supporting elements ensured that the entire system performed at a consistently high audiophile standard.
SME Turntable
The SME turntable was selected as the primary source to give the client a serious analog playback experience. In a high fidelity system of this level, the turntable becomes a core part of the musical character of the room the SME platform supported precise vinyl playback and allowed the client to enjoy music with the depth and texture that only a strong analog front end can provide.
Artesania Audio Rack
The Artesania Audio rack provided stable mechanical support for the equipment while maintaining the same premium level of design as the rest of the setup. Its vibration damping and rigid construction ensured the sensitive tube electronics and turntable operated without mechanical interference from the floor or adjacent equipment.
Kimber Kable Speaker and Interconnect Cables
Kimber Kable was used for all speaker and interconnection wiring to preserve signal integrity throughout the chain. In a reference system built around vacuum tube electronics and high sensitivity speakers, the cable quality directly affects the transparency and musicality of the final sound.
Synergistic Research Power Purifiers
Synergistic Research power purifiers maintained clean and stable power delivery throughout the system. In a high end tube amplifier setup, power quality directly affects noise floor, dynamics, and tonal smoothness the purifiers ensured the McIntosh electronics received the cleanest possible AC supply at all times.

System Integration
Unlike a home theatre or automation heavy project, this Chennai installation was all about creating a dedicated listening environment where the system could disappear and the music could take over. The selected components were not simply premium products on their own they were chosen because they worked together as a cohesive high performance chain. That synergy is what turns a good stereo system into a truly memorable one.
The final integration gave the client a refined listening space where dynamics, tonal balance, imaging, and scale could all be appreciated at a very high level. From the turntable to the preamplifier, from the tube monoblocs to the loudspeakers, every element was chosen to support musical immersion. The result was a serious high fidelity system designed for long term enjoyment rather than short term spectacle.
