Dual-Experience Luxury Audio Project — Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh
Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh
The Client’s Vision

This project in Ujjain was created for a client who had two clear passions: world-class high-fidelity stereo listening and immersive Dolby Atmos cinema. He was deeply connected to Indian classical music and especially admired the artistry of tabla players such as Pandit Udhai Mazumdar, Ustad Allah Rakha, Ustad Zakir Hussain, and Pandit Shankar Ghosh. Because he valued musical realism so highly, he did not want to compromise on sound quality in either room.
Instead of trying to force one system to do everything, we designed two dedicated experiences within the same project. One room was developed as a reference-grade high-fidelity music room, and the other was created as a Dolby Atmos media theatre. This gave the client a pure stereo experience for serious listening and a separate immersive cinema environment for films and streaming. The complete project took 28 months and was completed in January 2018, with a total investment of ₹1.31 crore.
High-Fidelity Stereo Room
High-Fidelity Stereo Room — Pure Musical Realism
The high-fidelity listening room was designed to reproduce music with depth, precision, and emotional realism. The client wanted the feeling that a tabla player was performing directly in front of him, with the instrument’s texture, speed, and energy preserved exactly as recorded. To achieve that level of intimacy, we selected components that could remain transparent, controlled, and highly musical.
Bowers & Wilkins 800 D3
The stereo system used Bowers & Wilkins 800 D3 loudspeakers as the main left and right speakers. These reference loudspeakers were chosen for their exceptional clarity, tonal balance, and dynamic control. Their role was to reproduce Indian classical music with the realism and finesse needed for tabla, vocals, and acoustic instruments.
REL Acoustics No. 25 Active Subwoofers
Two REL Acoustics No. 25 active subwoofers were used to add depth and foundation to the stereo system. They were not introduced for exaggerated bass, but for natural low-frequency support that would make the system feel full and balanced. In a serious music room, this kind of subwoofer integration helps the sound remain both authoritative and refined.
Accuphase A-70 Pure Class A Stereo Power Amplifier
The Bowers & Wilkins 800 D3 speakers were powered by the Accuphase A-70 pure Class A stereo power amplifier. This amplifier was selected because it offers smooth, highly refined performance with the current and control required for demanding loudspeakers. For a music lover who listens critically to classical percussion and subtle instrumental detail, the A-70 helped preserve musical texture without harshness or strain.
Accuphase C-2420
The Accuphase C-2420 preamplifier acted as the control center of the stereo chain. It handled volume and signal management while keeping the presentation clean and natural. In a reference listening setup, the preamplifier must remain transparent, and this model supported that objective very well.
Accuphase DP-600 SACD/CD Player
The Accuphase DP-600 SACD/CD player was used as the source component for high-quality disc playback. It gave the client a dependable way to enjoy his music collection in SACD and CD formats with excellent sonic purity. This source kept the listening experience serious and emotionally engaging.
Accuphase PS-520 Clean Power Supply
The Accuphase PS-520 clean power supply was installed to improve power stability and reduce electrical contamination. Clean power is especially important in a high-fidelity listening room because it helps lower the noise floor and improves musical focus. That makes the system sound calmer, more open, and more natural.
Kimber Kable Speaker Cables and Interconnects
Kimber Kable speaker cables and interconnects were used for signal transfer throughout the stereo chain. These cables helped maintain signal integrity and clean equipment organization. In a high-end stereo room, even supporting hardware contributes to the overall sonic quality.
Artesania Audio Racks
Artesania Audio racks supported all electronics and provided proper isolation from vibration. Together with the Kimber Kable wiring, they helped maintain signal integrity and clean equipment organization. In a high-end stereo room, even supporting hardware contributes to the overall sonic quality.

The listening room measured 500 sq. ft., with a listening distance of 20 feet. This allowed the Bowers & Wilkins 800 D3 system to breathe naturally and create a proper soundstage. The total cost of the stereo system was ₹94.5 lakh.

Dolby Atmos Media Theatre

Dolby Atmos Media Theatre — Immersive Cinema
The second part of the project was a dedicated 9-seater Dolby Atmos theatre designed for movies, streaming, and immersive entertainment. The client wanted excellent surround performance without sacrificing sound quality, so the system was planned with serious speakers, proper amplification, and acoustic treatment. The result was a theatre that could deliver both impact and clarity.
Ascendo CCRM 6-P
The left, centre, and right channels were handled by 3 Ascendo CCRM 6-P speakers. These speakers formed the front wall of the theatre and were responsible for dialogue clarity, screen anchoring, and front-stage impact. Their job was to keep the soundtrack precise and engaging across the seating area.
Ascendo CCRM 5-P
Four Ascendo CCRM 5-P speakers were used for the surround channels. These speakers created the side and rear movement that makes Dolby Atmos and surround playback feel immersive. Their placement helped the audience feel wrapped in the soundtrack rather than simply hearing sound from the front.
Ascendo SMSG 10 Subwoofers
The theatre used 4 SMSG 10 subwoofers to build the low-frequency foundation. These subwoofers provided the bass energy, impact, and scale needed for a cinema room. In a theatre, bass is what gives action scenes and music their physical presence, so this section played a major role in the final experience.
Ascendo DNA 1000.2
The four SMSG 10 subwoofers were powered using 2 nos. Ascendo DNA 1000.2 amplifiers. These amplifiers are designed for high-performance cinema and subwoofer applications, with strong power delivery, control, and DSP-based integration support. In a theatre room, the subwoofer amplifier has to provide tight bass control, proper headroom, and stable output, and the DNA 1000.2 was a strong fit for that role.
Bowers & Wilkins CCM 664 SR
The overhead channels were handled by 4 Bowers & Wilkins CCM 664 SR speakers. These in-ceiling speakers added height and movement above the audience, which is essential for a modern Dolby Atmos theatre. Their dual-tweeter design makes them well suited to surround or stereo ceiling applications, and in this theatre they helped create a more dimensional sound field.
Yamaha CX-A5200
The Yamaha CX-A5200 AV processor was used as the theatre’s processing engine. It handled decoding, channel management, and surround control, making sure the whole system worked as one coherent immersive layout. A processor like this is critical in a theatre because it defines how cleanly and accurately the channels are managed.
Yamaha MX-A5200
The entire theatre was powered using the Yamaha MX-A5200 11-channel power amplifier. This amplifier is designed for high-quality multi-channel home theatre performance and offers 11 channels of power with strong output and flexible bridging capability. It was the right choice for a room with multiple channel layers because it could support the system with clean, stable power while keeping the installation streamlined. The MX-A5200 was used as the sole power amplifier in the theatre section, exactly as specified, and it matched the needs of the theatre layout very well.
Apple TV
Apple TV was used as the source for streaming and digital content playback. It gave the client easy access to films and entertainment without complicating the operation of the theatre. This made the room practical for daily use while still feeling premium.
JVC DLA-X900 Projector
The image system used a JVC DLA-X900 projector, which delivered strong cinematic visuals suited to a dedicated theatre environment. Its performance ensured the image matched the quality of the audio system surrounding it.
Elite 135″ 16:9 Acoustically Transparent Screen
The Elite 135-inch acoustically transparent screen allowed the front speakers to remain correctly positioned behind the image surface. This combination helped the theatre maintain proper sound placement and a clean front wall, keeping dialogue locked to the picture across all 9 seats.
The theatre also received the necessary acoustic treatment to support surround performance and maintain clarity inside the room. It was a 9-seater theatre, and the total cost of the cinema setup was ₹37 lakh.

Planning a Similar Project?
This project shows that when a client values both musical truth and cinematic immersion, the best solution is often to design two dedicated experiences with different priorities. A reference stereo room can reveal the emotion and realism of live performance, while a Dolby Atmos theatre can deliver scale, drama, and immersion for films and streaming. When both are executed properly, the result is a home entertainment environment that is technically serious, emotionally engaging, and built for long-term enjoyment.
