The Client’s Vision
This Pune project was designed around a very large living room where the client wanted nothing less than a serious reference-grade high-fidelity audio experience. The brief was focused entirely on pure music listening, with the goal of creating a system that could deliver scale, refinement, control, and emotional depth in a premium residential setting. The room had to support long listening sessions and provide a sound quality that would satisfy a demanding music lover at the highest level.
Because the space was a large living room, the system had to combine strong loudspeaker performance with proper amplification, excellent source quality, and stable power delivery. Every component was chosen to work as part of a complete audiophile chain rather than as separate luxury items. The final result was a powerful yet refined high-end stereo system built for serious musical enjoyment.

The main challenge in this project was to achieve reference-level sound quality in a large living room environment. Unlike a dedicated listening room, a living room introduces more open space, different seating positions, and greater demand on speaker scale and amplifier control. The system therefore had to produce strong musical authority while still preserving fine detail, tonal balance, and listening comfort across the full room.
Another important factor was matching the components correctly so that the system would perform as one coherent chain. The Bowers & Wilkins 802 D4 loudspeakers are highly revealing, so they required clean amplification, high-quality source playback, and stable power conditioning to reach their full potential. The project was designed with careful attention to system synergy essential in a high-end stereo installation of this class where every weakness in the chain is audible.

Bowers & Wilkins 802 D4 Floorstanders
The 802 D4 flagship floorstanders provided the scale and authority required to fill a large living room while still preserving the fine detail and natural musical character that serious high-fidelity listening demands. Their diamond dome tweeter, Continuum cone midrange, and Aerofoil bass section delivered precision, dynamic capability, and exceptional clarity across the full frequency range a system that rewards both powerful orchestral content and intimate acoustic recordings equally.

REL Acoustics 212/SX Subwoofers × 2
Two REL Acoustics 212/SX subwoofers extended the low-frequency performance of the 802 D4s while maintaining speed, texture, and seamless integration with the main speakers. The dual-subwoofer approach was essential in a large living room to achieve even bass distribution across the listening area. High-level connection via Neutrik preserved the stereo character of the McIntosh amplification stage, giving double bass walking lines and orchestral foundations the weight and rhythmic precision they deserve at reference quality.

Electronics and Amplification : Accuphase Class A Reference
The amplification centrepiece was an Accuphase A-48 Class A stereo power amplifier paired with an Accuphase C-2150 preamplifier with phono card. This combination brought a refined and highly musical character to the system the Class A amplifier providing smooth control, warmth, and excellent micro-detail, while the preamplifier added tonal finesse and flexibility, helping the system sound rich, open, and highly resolved across both vinyl and digital sources.
Accuphase A-48 Class A Stereo Power Amplifier
The Accuphase A-48 operates entirely in Class A, providing the smooth control, natural warmth, and micro-detail retrieval that the 802 D4’s highly revealing drivers reward. Class A operation eliminates crossover distortion entirely, and the result is an amplifier that combines authority with a gracefulness that makes long listening sessions feel genuinely effortless — powerful without a trace of hardness, detailed without clinical edge.
Accuphase C-2150 Preamplifier with Phono Card
The Accuphase C-2150 preamplifier with built-in phono card handled both analog and digital source management with the tonal finesse that matches the A-48’s character perfectly. The integrated phono stage gave the SME turntable a dedicated, high-quality amplification path without requiring an external phono unit keeping the signal chain elegant and minimising the number of connections between stylus and speaker.

The system was equipped with both a high-quality analog front end and a precision DAC, giving the client a complete source platform that maintained the same audiophile standard across vinyl and digital listening without any compromise between formats.
SME Model 6 Turntable with M2-9R Tonearm
The SME Model 6 with M2-9R tonearm gave the system a highly respected analog source capable of delivering excellent tracking accuracy, bearing stability, and musical realism. SME’s engineering precision its sub-tolerance bearing tolerances, arm geometry, and structural rigidity ensured every groove in the client’s collection was tracked with complete fidelity, extracting the full depth and textural character that vinyl uniquely offers at this level.
Bel Canto E1 X DAC
The Bel Canto E1 X DAC provided clean and high-quality digital conversion for modern digital sources, maintaining the same audiophile standard across streaming and high-resolution digital playback as the SME turntable delivered for vinyl. Its inclusion ensured the system was genuinely versatile equally capable of revealing the finest detail from Tidal or Qobuz as from the client’s record collection, without any format feeling like a compromise.

Support Equipment and Cabling : System Integrity Foundation
In a reference-grade stereo system, the supporting equipment is not secondary it is the foundation that allows the primary components to perform at their full potential. Mechanical stability, power quality, and signal integrity were each addressed with dedicated solutions that matched the premium standard of the amplification and speakers.
Artesania Audio Equipment Rack
The Artesania Audio rack provided a stable and refined mechanical platform for the Accuphase electronics and source equipment. In a high-end system with Class A amplification and an SME turntable, vibration isolation is essential external disturbances that reach the turntable appear as coloration in the stylus, and structural resonance in the amplifier chassis affects the noise floor. The Artesania rack addressed both while maintaining the premium aesthetic character the installation required.
Accuphase PS-500 Power Conditioner
The Accuphase PS-500 ensured cleaner and more stable electrical supply to the entire system. In a large Pune residential environment, mains quality can fluctuate significantly, and a Class A amplifier combined with a sensitive phono stage is especially vulnerable to power-line interference. The PS-500 removed RFI and mains noise, allowing the A-48 to operate from a clean waveform and preserving the black backgrounds from which music emerges with its full dynamic range intact.
Kimber Kable Speaker & Interconnect Cables
Kimber Kable was used throughout for both speaker connections and interconnects, preserving signal quality and maintaining a consistent audiophile standard across every link in the chain. In a system as revealing as this one where the 802 D4’s diamond tweeter resolves the finest harmonic overtones cable character becomes directly audible, and Kimber’s geometry and material selection kept the system transparent, coherent, and tonally true from source to speaker.

The final setup gave the client a high-end stereo experience that combined power, musicality, and precision in a very elegant way. In a large Pune living room, that meant a system capable of delivering both scale and intimacy depending on the music being played a sophisticated listening environment designed for long-term enjoyment and reference-grade performance in equal measure.
